Alternative way to Launch FrontPage & Open your Web - when working on a computer in LIB 117:

1.  Open Microsoft Explorer browser

2.  Type into the Address field at the top of your browser screen the root URL of your web--e.g., http://www.cocc.edu/jimh/
--and hit Enter key.
NOTE: Root URL will open your index.html webpage by default.  If you have not yet entered any text on your index page, then the page will be blank.

3.  Click the File menu and select Edit with Microsoft FrontPage.  This procedure will open FrontPage and will display your web, but now you need to login in order to access your web.

4.  You should be prompted with a Login dialog box:  Enter your username and password, and click OK (or hit Enter key).
Your Username & Password were given in class on handout directions, but omitted here to protect access to your web.
If all goes well, you'll be in!!

Alternative ways to Add (new) Page to your Web:

WAY #1: Use SAVE AS to reproduce an existing webpage
a.
Open existing web page that you want to reproduce (e.g. a  template page)
b.
From File menu select Save As.
c.  Save As
Dialog box will appear and you need to do two things:
--Page title:  click Change button.  Set Page Title dialog box will appear.  Type in your new page title (e.g. draft) and click OK.
--
*File Name:  back in the Save As dialog box, *type in a file name--and don't forget the file extension ( .htm )
--Click OK.  And wait.  Your new web page will appear in your Folder List.
*Web page file name will part of the URL for this webpage, so do NOT use any spaces[See Cora for more guidelines.]

WAY #2: Copy an existing page (e.g. index or a template web page) in your web and  Rename it.

1.  In the Folder List view of your open web, position cursor arrow on the web page to be copied, and on your mouse Right press and Hold that web page, then Drag up to your root URL [marked] at the top of Folder List.

2. Release your hold and a short cut dialog box will appear:  Right click "Copy here."  Then wait while the copied web page is created.  When FrontPage has completed the operation, the new copied web page will appear in your Folder List, looking something like this:  template2_copy(1).htm

3.  Right click on the copied webpage and select Rename from the short cut menu.  The copied page will now appear in a marked box:  Hit Backspace key to erase the old name and then type in the new name of this webpage--and don't forget the file extension ( .htm )
Left click
cursor arrow and wait.  While FrontPage completes the operation, the renamed webpage will reappear in your Folder List.

4. Open (i.e. double click on) the renamed webpage, and it will be loaded into your Main Frame for editing.

5.  Change Page Title and Copy URL into your Footer
--
From the FrontPage File menu, select "Properties..." and
"Page Properties" dialog box
will appear.  "General" tab should be displayed (if not, click "General" tab).
--In Title field, type in your new page title.
--Location field displays the current URL of this web page.  Mark and Copy the URL.  Then click OK.
--Position your cursor in your web page and paste the copied URL.  Footer information about your webpage--e.g. "URL of this webpage: . . . ")--is needed to identify your webpage for your web users, as well as to help you keep track!

6.  SAVE your edited web page!!  And SAVE often!!
Three ways to Save:
--Control + S
or
--select Save from File menu at the top of your FrontPage screen
or
--click Save icon at the top of your FrontPage screen

NOTE WELL: Whenever you move, copy, rename, etc., an existing file or folder in your web, you are also changing the URL of that file or folder as well. So follow up editing may be needed.  For example:
--You may need to revise Footer info copied in renamed webpage  (e.g. "URL of this webpage: . . . ").

Use Microsoft FrontPage Help:
--Click the Help button at the top of your screen, and select Microsoft FrontPage Help from Help menu.
Shortcut:  Press F1 on your keyboard.
--Click on a tab to select one of these help options:

bullet Content: Display the Help table of contents. Click on a topic to display help for that topic.
For example:
-Click Designing Webs
--click Hyperlinks from the drop-down submenu
---click
Create a hyperlink to a page or file on the World Wide Web from the drop-down submenu
bullet Answer Wizard: Perform a natural language query
In the "What would you like to do?" field, read the directions, erase what's there, type in your question (e.g. type in What is a Theme?) and click Search button.
bullet Index: Find information by keyword (e.g. type in Theme)
