Response Writing #2: Wuthering Heights
29 April 2003

Length:  one (1) typed/wordprocessed double spaced page using a standard font & point size, or two (2) legibly handwritten (in black or blue ink) single-spaced pages.

Class Preparation assignment worth 10 points possible
Evaluation will be based on relevant Course Learning Outcomes (see ENG 109 Syllabus), including following directions, clear communication (proofread & edit!), evidence of thoughtful and thorough preparation; ability to avoid plagiarism and cite sources.

Related Class Participation activity worth 5 points possible: Be prepared with your Response Writing and engage in Exchange Reading & Discussion in class on Tues., April 29.

Topic:  Identify and interpret one key literary element of Wuthering Heights (e.g., a theme, a character, aspect of narrative structure, plot event or conflict, or a setting)--that you think is  significant to understanding the novel.  Limit your focus to one or two main points so that you can develop each main point with adequate explanation and cite well-selected passages from the novel that illustrate/support your points.  Be sure to explain why/how your chosen literary element is "significant" to better understanding Wuthering Heights.

Alternative Topic Choice:  Adapt/combine one or two selected "Reading and Discussion Questions" of interest to you from the Wuthering Heights Study Guide handout.  Again, limit your focus to one or two key literary points so that you can develop each main point with clear explanation and cite well-selected passages from the novel that illustrate/support your points.  Be sure to explain why the selected topic question/s is "significant" to better understanding Wuthering Heights.

Avoid Plagiarism: Cite Your Sources!  And support your main points clearly and persuasively with well-selected literary citations - i.e. from Wuthering Heights
Follow guidelines and models given with directions for Response Writing #1
