Exercise  9

1. Using LexisNexis "Easy Search," look for news articles in the category on the topic of West Nile Virus in transplants  published within the last 2 years.

   a. Select from the right panel the category "Newspapers".

   b. Click on "Washington Post".  What's the title of the newspaper article?   When was it published?

 2. Go back to the initial search screen in LexisNexis and click on the red "News" tab.

   a. Search for the show  "All Things Considered," and combine this with a keyword search for the topic of  war against Iraq.

   b. Select the news category Transcripts

   c. Select  National Public Radio Transcripts

   d. Limit your results to last six months news.

3.  Go back to the initial search screen in Lexis Nexis and click on the red "Business" tab.  Do a search for Nike. 

   a.  Who is the chairman of Nike?   How old is he?

   b.  can you find a financial report for the company? 

4. Go back to the initial search screen in Lexis Nexis and click on the red "Legal" tab. Search for information on the subject of "death with dignity" .

What kind of results did you get?

5.  The new design of LexisNexis sort of buried access to its collection of polls and surveys... However, here is how you may search for polls and public opinion in this database (polls can be really important in a research project!)

Go back to the initial search screen in Lexis Nexis and click on the red "News" tab.

a. in the right hand panel, click on "Roper Center for Public Opinion Research"

b. do a search to find the latest report on the presidential approval rate for George W. Bush.

c.  What's the date of the latest poll report you found?

d. Which was the organization conducting this survey?
