1. Using Google find what the state flower
of New York is.
What is it?
2. You are doing a search on echinacea and want to exclude commercial sites from your results. What is your search? Try it in Google.
3. Find a picture of Taj Mahal.
4. Search Yahoo or Google. In basic search mode, type keywords using phrase searching and the (+) sign to find a recipe for sweet potato pie.
5. Again search Yahoo! or Google using phrase searching and the (-) sign for information on mass extinction by excluding the word asteroids (alternatively, you may use the Advanced Search features to exclude the word asteroids)
6. Go to Yahoo! and click on "Advanced Search". On the next screen locate the "Help" link, top right, and click on it. Click on "Search Preferences, Shortcuts, & Tips" and then "What are Yahoo! shortcuts?" to find the following:
a. a map using your home address.
b. what the weather in
Athens, Greece, is today.
7. A family member has just been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Where should you go to find "credible" medical information over the free web?
8. Now use Google to find an article published in Forbes with the title "Google isn't everything". The article is freely available. Have a quick read on it to see how the general press responds to search tools like Google versus other library resources.
