1.  What types of materials (books, articles, free web sites, etc) does Ebsco allow you to search for?  BE SPECIFIC!

 

2.   Which Ebsco database would you use if you were researching a health related topic (i.e., which of the Ebsco databases is best suited for such a research...)? 

 

3. What is the difference between magazine versus journal articles?

 

4.  How would you limit your Ebsco results to scholarly publications after you type in your search words

 

5.  What kind of search would you perform to find articles on marsupials other than kangaroos (i.e., you will need to exclude kangaroos from your search results)? Make sure that you use a. Boolean connectors and b. truncation.

6.  You are researching the effect of ranching and cattle raising on deforestation in the Amazon region.  You want to be careful in your selection and connection of 'key' search terms so that you pick all relevant articles that contain either term, ranching, cattle.

7. Using Ebsco locate an article written by Andrew Singleton and JaneMaree Maher which discusses men's involvement in doing housework.  Provide for this article:

8. Using the "Cite this article" feature in the database, copy and paste here the APA citation of the article you you located above (question #7)

9. Now using the evaluation criteria we discussed in week 2 , describe and evaluate the article you located in question #7:

a. What do you know about the authors and how well published are they?  Explain how you found information about them.

b. Is this a journal or magazine article and why do you think so?

c. Would the currency of this article be important if you had to use it for a paper on a similar topic? Explain why.

d. How is information presented and supported ? Is based on opinion, other studies, authors' own research, etc. ?

e. Would you use this article for a college level research project?

10. Finally, compare the two databases, Academic Search Premier and Academic One File. How similar are they in their coverage and features?  Be specific!
