DescriptionAn introduction to the basic concepts and tools of the global computer network known as the Internet. Topics include the basic skills of Internet navigation and use of the appropriate software tools for navigation. It is expected that students already have basic computer skills. Course
Goals
Navigate the web by using the basic features of the common Internet browser software packages.
Learn the basic features of common web browsing software.
Understand the structure of Internet addresses.
Explain what is meant by "downloading" and "hyperlinks."
Understand and apply the basic capabilities of e-mail.
Learn the basic features of common email software.
Learn the basic concepts of searching the web.
Explore other internet protocols (FTP, ListServs, Chats, Usenet News)
Course
FormatEach of the class sessions consists of a lecture/demonstration combined with class activities. Students are required to prepare for participation in the discussion by completing class assignments before the next session. Questions about the topics are encouraged and sharing of Internet experiences and resources is expected Lab Access to the Internet is available on campus in the COCC computer lab.
