Catalog Description
Explore the concepts of of web page/site design. Students complete work in graphics creation, web page layout, and web site organization. Study the practice of hand coded HTML and FrontPage HTML editing. Additional web technologies are explored as time allows.
 
Prerequisite
CIS 120 -- Computer Concepts I or instructor approval. Competent use of a modern microcomputer with knowledge of using a hierarchical file system (folder and files/folders within folders) is expected! Familiarity with web browser usage and college level reading and writing skills.

Syllabus
Goals:
Expose the student to concepts of web page development. Use FrontPage and text editors to create and organize web pages. Learn fundamental web site design skills, web page layout skills, learn various web technologies, and basic graphics preparation/creation skills.

Topics:

  1. FrontPage tools and navigation.
  2. Basic concepts of HTML.
  3. Enhancing web pages.
  4. Managing and publishing webs and web pages.
  5. Creating and using tables.
  6. Creating and using frames
  7. Working with forms
  8. Adding graphics features to web pages
  9. Maintaining a web site
  10. Advanced web technologies, cascading style sheets for example

Laboratory projects: More than thirty and less than seventy web pages.

  1. Learn to use FrontPage and a text editor for web page creation
  2. Learn to use basic image tools
  3. Learn to layout web pages
  4. Learn to plan web site
  5. Ability to use FrontPage tools and utilities
  6. Ability to create web pages following correct design principles
  7. Ability to plan web sites that provide coherent content
  8. Ability to plan web sites with appropriate user navigation tools
  9. Ability to create and edit graphic images for web use
  10. Knowledge of web graphics formats and options
  11. Ability to use simple JavaScript programs on web pages
  12. Ability to use CSS and other new web technologies
  13. Ability to upload and manage web pages on a server
