Week 4 Assignments

bulletWe start this week with a hard look at how our web sites are coming. You should have a coherent home page with links to homework and a project area. The homework pages should include all the basic web pages assigned so far and the project should include a detailed description of what your project is. Your web site should have decent navigation links and a beginning attention to design and layout.

bulletTuesday we begin discussing tables. Read Chapter 10 in your book. Tables are not easy! (The may seem easy initially.) As you read through the chapter, create sample pages demonstrating the various table concepts discussed. Start integrating the use of tables into your pages (possibly all of your pages).

bulletFind three commercial web sites you like, write a short paragraph describing why you like them, what are they doing right? Find three commercial web sites you don't like, write a short paragraph describing about what they are doing wrong. Put all the links and a snap shot* of each web site home page and your descriptions on a new web page linked from your homework page. Format the page nicely using tables.

*Screen Snap Shots

1)       Open any window on your screen, the browser is good. Resize the window so that it does not fill the whole screen (it can get confusing if you paste a large image that fills the screen). Now hold down the ALT key and press the PrintScrn key.

2)       Open a new page in the FrontPage program. Use the Edit menu and select the Paste option. The “snapped” screen should be pasted into your document. You may select the image and resize it by dragging a corner. When you save the document, FrontPage will ask you to save the image separate from the file. Remember where you save it and then you can move it, rename it, whatever you need.
