The Running skyline is probably the most versatile cable logging system. With an interlocked 3-drum system, this configuration can perform partial cuts with its lateral yarding capability. It also can carry a heavy load with smaller cables, since 3 lines are carrying the load. It also can vary the deflection at any point on the span, from no suspension of the logs (ground skidding) to full suspension (flying the logs). This configuration can also log uphill and downhill capably.
The setup shown below is a downhill yarding set, with a mechanical slack-pulling carriage. The carriage is a non-clamped carriage, kept in place by counter-tension between the haulback and the two mainlines. The two mainlines are connected in such a way that the skidding line can be payed in/out by reeving one line in while the other reeves out, or vice-versa.
The tailhold is a tailspar tree, designed to provide additional deflection, especially at the backend of the road.
