The first definition of reach relates to a logging truck's trailer. More properly called a "box reach", it is a long rectangular metal extension which connects the trailer bunks and stakes to the tractor unit. Shown below, itis the long mmber, angled up and over the cab of the truck.When the truck gets to the landing, the loader will lift the trailer off the truck and the reach will be hooked to the tractor, ready for a load of logs.
