Portable Spar/Tower

The standing tower used today is a telescoping metal tower that can be raised on the landing. These towers are available up to 110 feet tall, but are being outnumbered in the field by the swing yarders. However, a few companies like Madill (Canada) and Ross Equipment (US) still make these type of towers.

Shown below is a 85 steel tower rigged up as a high-lead system. Note the chokers and logs hooked to the butt-rigging. This setup only requires two working drums, for the mainline and the haulback line. Also note the number of guylines required for this type of tower.
