Perpendicular felling is probably the most common form of felling when conditions allow for it. This form of felling allows for the least chance of hangups when groundlead cable yarding. The preferred method for felling would be upslope as this allows for a shorter fall distance for the tree and the stump can act as a catch to prevent the tree from sliding back down the hill.
