Intermediate Support

Intermediate supports are found on Multispan Skylines. The intermediate supports have a J-hook which supports the skyline at one or more points between the yarder head spar and the tail spar. A picture of a leaning tree type intermediate support and J-hook is seen below.

Multispan skylines require a special carriage which can pass the intermediate support J-hook without untracking from the skyline. Shown below is a motorized, self-propelled carriage. It is a slackpulling carriage with a load capacity of 15,000 lb.

Other types of intermediate support rigging setups are possible. Below is a diagram of a side-block intermediate support.

Since it is not possible to have a tree exactly on line where youmay need one, the double-tree intermediate support (see below)is a more common setup in the woods. Note the angles of the intermediate support line to the direction of skyline pull.
