Shown below is a plan view schematic of a standing tower yarder setup with six guylines to be set. . The load from the skyline or mainline is oriented to Azimuth (AZ) 0 degrees, or AZ 0.
The guys to be set in the rear guying zones, AZ 130 to AZ 160 and AZ 200 to AZ 230, would be termed back guys.
It should be kept in mind that there can be more or less guylines than 6 depending onthe circumstances. However, as the yarder road shifts across the setting, the guylines serving as back guys may change and it is important to have guy lines properly positioned in azimuth as well as vertical angle to provide adequate resistance to the yarding load.
The guys to be set in the front facing zones, AZ 310 to AZ 0 and AZ 0 to AZ 50, are often called "snap guys".
