CONTEXT:

• 2006-2008: Information Literacy Summit/s  and ILAGO
  Development of 8 draft IL proficiencies.
  

• March 2009: ILAGO's Recommendation to JBAC
  8 IL proficiencies, criteria, and letter of recommendation.
  

• January 2010: ratified IL criteria to be embedded in WR sequence.
  Oregon Community Colleges Handbook and Planning Guide
  Outcomes and Criteria for  Transferable General Education Courses in Oregon
  APPROVED BY THE JOINT BOARDS OF EDUCATION ON JANUARY 7, 2010

PROCESS TO DATE AT COCC:

• Spring 2009: Meeting with Kathy regarding JBAC discussions; Lib 127 to be retired; embedded IL in WR sequence based on IL Summit Proficiencies.
  

• Fall 2009: Informal brainstorming session with library and composition faculty on ideas for incorporating IL into writing courses.
   

• December 2009: Proposed Approach to Information Literacy for Fall 2009, Winter 2010 and Spring 2010.
  Presented to AIM by Cat and Tina 12/4/09.
   

• March 2010: AIM draft initial concepts for addressing IL in writing courses
  Ideas to bring to composition committee chair--based on above document and notes from AIM meetings 3/1/2010 and 3/15/2010.
  
  

• April 2010 : Met with Composition Committee Chair--presented draft concepts (above) for IL in WR courses. 
  Comp. Committee chair took draft back to Composition Committee for review.
  
  

• May 2010: Response from Composition Committee to Library draft concepts for IL (Note--this became our de-facto IL implementation plan for the following year.)
  

• Spring/Summer 2010:  COCC General Education Outcomes for Computer and Information Literacy discussed by COCC's assessment team.  Assessment Rubric developed.
  

• October 2010: IL Workshop for new and part-time faculty led at Composition Committee by librarians (implemented per Library/Comp Committee IL discussion in May 2010.)
  

• October 2010: Rubric for COCC General Education Outcomes for Computer and Information Literacy presented to faculty at all campus assessment workshop.   Taskforce identified to draft implementation tool.
  

• October 2010:  PT WR faculty struggling with incorporating IL in WR sequence...how to assist beyond the workshop previously offered?
  

• October 2010: Meeting with VPI...why not reinstate Lib 127 as an elective (2 credit course) to meet identified need for IL?  PT faculty needing an update on IL skills could take course...students would have an opportunity to substantially explore IL concepts.

• October 2010: VPI, Deans, librarians and chairs of Humanities Dept. and Comp. Committee. meet and decide to reinstate Lib. 127 while continuing to develop Lib 199 and Lib 299 courses and passing them through the COCC Curriculum Committee process.  Lib 199 (soon to be ratified as Lib 101 or something similar) may be part of a learning community with CIS 70, WR 65...for transitional students.

• November, 2010: Second IL workshop for WR faculty to be offered Nov. 19th.  Hands on lab environment.  Verified--pt instructors can be paid $25 to attend.  About five faculty attended.

• December 2010: Cat, Tina and Maggie met regarding IL expectations for WR 60/65.

• December 2010:  Verified that PT faculty can receive tuition waiver for taking Lib 127 (Stephen Newcombe, 12/1/2010).

• January 2011: Cat and Tina met with Sara Henson regarding IL in Study Skills courses.

• January 2011: Librarians refine IL offerings for WR (and all) instructors at:  http://campuslibrary.cocc.edu/Library+Services/Library+Instructional+Services/default.aspx.

• January 2011: Material for Lib 100 and Lib 227 submitted to COCC Curriculum Committee.

• February :

• March 2011: Lib 100 and Lib 227 approved by COCC Curriculum Committee.
