LIBRARY 127

Introduction to the  the COCC Library:

The COCC Library was designed and built in 1997 with public bond measure funds.  It's services are designed for all members of COCC's service district, whether or not they are registered COCC students.

As you walk in the front doors of the COCC Library, you will find yourself in the open space of the rotunda.    On the right side of the rotunda, you will find the Circulation/Reserve desk.   Circulation is  where you may check out books, and the Reserve Desk is where instructors will put course-related material for two-hour checkout.

Adjacent to the Circulation Desk you'll see the entry way to the Computer Lab and the Library Classroom.  Go through this entry and down a hallway to your right, and you'll see the two doors to the classroom first, then the lab

Back in the Rotunda, you'll want to know that the Interlibrary loan office is located near the Circulation desk.   Interlibrary loan allows students and community members to place orders for materials owned by any library in the world.

As you walk through the rotunda into the main part of the first floor, you will see the Library's reference desk to your right.  This, of course, is where students and other library patrons can get help with reference questions and research projects.  Also on the first floor: the periodicals collection (magazines, journals and newspapers); the reference collection (encyclopedias, dictionaries, statistical sources and other resources); and government documents.

The COCC Library is a government depository library; it's the Library's responsibility to provide government documents and information to all members of the our Congressional District.

Elevators and staircases take you to the Library's second floor, where the regular circulating (that is, books you can check out) collection is held.

The basement level provides access the Tutoring/Testing center and to the Media Services Center.

These days, most libraries are represented on the World Wide Web.  The COCC Library webpage is constantly in the process of being improved and updated, and provides access to the library online catalog (to find books), to periodical databases (to find articles) and to Internet search engines, among other things.
