A couple of years ago I kayaked the Rio Tambopata in Peru. In the Tambopata Reserve is a natural salt lick where thousands of colorful birds congregate. We had the surprise of our lives when a whole flock of Macaws landed among our group. Only later did we learn that these birds had been orphaned as chicks and raised by scientists then turned loose in the jungle to fend for themselves.
