General Guidelines for Working in the Laboratory:
Lab is scheduled for a 2
hours and 15 minutes, once weekly.
You will be expected to be available to spend this time in the lab, although it
is possible you will be dismissed early.
Do not make appointments which conflict with your scheduled lab period.
Bring your lab procedure,
safety goggles, a pen and paper to class.
Each week you will be
required to write out and hand in a written piece of work relating to the lab.
These reports will be the basis of your lab grade.
10 points will be possible for each week’s activities.
Your percent score in lab will be factored in to your grade for the
lecture course, however you MUST pass lab to pass the course.
Lab grades constitute anywhere from 20-25% of your course grade depending
on how much optional class work you turn in.
Labs are like kitchens, in
that they can be unsafe places if you are careless.
We will discuss safety in some detail during the first lab session.
You will be required to read, understand, and sign a lab safety sheet on
the first day. Unsafe behavior could
result in your dismissal from the lab.
