FA 125 Take-Home Midterm = 30 points possible
DUE: Wed., May 5, 2010
Learning goals
-  To help you achieve relevant FA 125 Learning Outcomes,
 esp. Learning Outcome #2 (see FA 125 Syllabus)

Basic Requirements:

1.  Your Midterm must be word-processed and double spaced using standard margins, fonts & point sizes--e.g. Times New Roman 12 point or Arial 10 point or Calibri 12 point.

2. Your Midterm must be properly labeled as follows: 

--Label your assignment with a 4-line MLA Style Header in the upper left-hand corner of the first page of your document:

--Provide MLA-style Running Page Headers, consecutively numbered, in the upper right-hand corner of each subsequent page, including the Works Cited page, of your document:

3. Your Midterm should follow directions and address all topics assigned, based on required research.  Recommended Length of Midtermapproximately 3-to-4 word-processed, double-spaced pages (including a separate Works Cited page), or as long as it needs to be to address all assigned topics and get the job done as well as you can!

4.  Your Midterm must avoid plagiarism and cite sources used, making a good faith effort to follow MLA style in providing In-Text Citations within your Midterm and complete bibliographical information on all sources cited in a Works Cited list, placed on a separate page at the end of your Midterm.

Midterm Part 1 (Total 25 pts possible): Key Filmmaking Personnel

Respond to each of the following questions, drawing upon at least two different sources to develop each of your responses. 
--Sources that you summarize, paraphrase, and/or quote directly in your responses must be appropriately cited in-text following MLA style--and direct quotations must be enclosed in quotation marks. 
--You must also provide list of Works Cited at the end of your Midterm; this Works Cited must provide complete bibliographical information formatted in MLA style on all sources that you have cited in the text of your Midterm.

1. What is a film Director (i.e. what does s/he do)?

2. What is a film Producer (i.e. what does s/he do)?
(5 pts possible)
3. What is a film Screenplay or Script Writer (i.e. what does s/he do)?
(5 pts possible)
4. What is a film Cinematographer or Director of Photography (i.e. what does s/he do)?
(5 pts possible)
5. What is a film Editor (i.e. what does s/he do)?
(5 pts possible)

 

Midterm Part 2  (Total 5 pts possible): Film Terms
Investigate and develop definitions of two film terms of interest to you.

--Sources that you summarize, paraphrase, and/or quote directly in your definitions must be appropriately cited in-text following MLA style--and direct quotations must be enclosed in quotation marks. 
--You must also provide list of Works Cited at the end of your Midterm; this Works Cited must provide complete bibliographical information formatted in MLA style on all sources that you have cited in the text of your Midterm.

6. Define a film term.
(2.5 pts possible)
7. Define a second film term.
